Fitness Fear Friday - Procrastination (guest post)

Hey there active peeps! It's Friday! WooooHooooo! You know what that means though right? Fitness Fears discussion day. Today, enjoy Big Girl Bomshell here and I'm hanging out over at her place. Take it away Jules.
-----------------------------------------------------

Thank God it’s Friday. Now, I can move on. This week has been hell for me. You see, its been a little over a month since I wrote my last guest post here on Fitness Fear Friday. Oh, I was feeling over-
confident. Last month, I talked about learning to walk all over again. Well, up until this week, I have
been walking or riding my bicycle, yes a bicycle, just about every day. Yep! So darn proud of myself;
And then it hit!

The Fear Monster, the freeze frame. My fear monster has a name…procrastination. BIG TIME! Poor
Salina. She is probably wondering what the hell happened. We are trading posts today and here it is
early in the morning and I have re-written this post a thousand times.

First it was, well, she wants a picture of Jackie..my bicycle..camera batteries were dead, oh forgot
the camera, oh no, no time for that now. La, La, La. That is me. Off into my own world. Oh, damn,
got to get that done for Salina. Don’t dare let her down; she looks up to me. Don’t blow your image.

KABOOM! There it went. The whole “ You got it together girl” just blew up in my face.

My tools for procrastination….ADD more! Yep. That is what I do. It allows me to run around like a
chicken with my head cut-off, going to a little Henny- Penny side of the sky is falling, which then leads
me to “What’s the Use?!”

This is the point where I feel the need to turn to food and just sit. Gorge myself on sweets until I can’t
feel anymore. BUT…today is different. I have felt the fear all week AND while I didn’t get out there
and exercise, I waited until the last minute to write my blog posts, I DIDN’T fill up my time with FOOD.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I had fantasies about Oreo cookies and chocolate bars and BIG pieces of
cake. But today, I didn’t let myself down. Instead of clearing my full plate by eating; I slowly started
scraping things into the garbage to make room for a clean plate.

So, YEP, I still have a ton of fear around fitness but the difference is, I only let it derail me for a
moment. I didn’t sabotage the whole plan. This weekend…Jackie and I are going to spend some time
together. Next weekend, I am walking a 6K. And the month of September, my fitness goal is to quit
procrastinating about weight training.

Fitness Fear Friday (Guest Post)

Hi my active peeps. Hope you all had a fabulous week and are ready for a fun and exciting weekend. I'm happy to report that my nagging has finally paid off. My favorite Big Girl Bombshell has finally agreed to talk about her fitness fears. Not only that, but she is doing it right here, right now. Please give her some support.

Thanks

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jules – Big Girl Bombshell here. Your girl Friday! You know, the assistant that has a wide range of duties. Well, Salina has been pushing, Excuse me, I mean dropping little hints for me to talk about my Fitness fear.

So today, I will be her girl Friday. Today’s duty is to be honest with you about my fear of fitness. It may seem a little strange, but hopefully, someone will understand this, and be able to give me a few pointers. I certainly have not been able to figure out how to cross the line, safely.

I have a fear that stops me dead in my tracks. It stops me from pushing myself too hard. I’m sure you have heard about the Fight or Flight response to Fear, well, mine is to freeze. Just like in a game of Simon Says.

I honestly don’t know how to handle the physical feelings that occur inside my body when my heart rate goes up. It triggers emotions from my childhood that I was just too young to deal with. That is the frame of mind that exercise puts me in.

It is similar to the physical feelings of emotions that trigger a binge or running to the chocolate or stuffing myself to not feel. While I crave and long for that feeling that avid exercisers proclaim, I have not been able to allow myself to get to that point. The moment my heart rate goes up, that strong pounding in my chest, my brain tells me to stop.

The one thing I do know, is I have to get beyond this, to be successful in my 50 by 50 challenge. Exercise and fitness is 50% of the equation. I have done a hell of a job dealing with the emotions attached to my eating, slowly changed a lot of my eating habits, but here I sit.

Wanting more than anything else, to push beyond my comfort zone, within the confines of my body, and start living actively. But, I still sit pondering what to do. I know, Just Do It, but that is so much easier said than done.

So my first step..is to acknowledge it. As crazy as it may sound to some, I need to openly admit my fear and then I can approach it in a more rational manner. So, my living active challenge for August, is not as exciting as Salina’s. I will not be jumping around on a trampoline, doing Airaeorbics. I will be learning to walk all over again, just like a baby.

Wish me luck!

Living Active; Living Vicariously

I'm so excited, I can hardly contain myself and that's impressive considering that it's early right now and I am NOT a morning person. If one thing could perk me up without my morning coffee injections, it's the news I have for you today! Ready for it? Big Girl Bombshell and I have been chatting up a storm lately. I recently asked her how she managed to become a super blogger and for any tips and advice she could give me to grow this here little blog to something that might actually get read. What can I say, I like the attention. One of her brilliant ideas was to guest post on each other's blogs every so often. When she proposed this idea, I was seriously blown away. Not only do I think it's a great idea but I really was touched by her enthusiasm to help me (I'm not use to asking for help....EVER). So here's the big news ---- Bombshell's first guest post right here for you to enjoy, right NOW.

                                    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Big Girl Bombshell is dropping in to check on the Living Active Bombshell. You see, I live vicariously through Salina’s blogs. Her active life peaks my curiosity. My past experience of living active, well, my imagination lives actively. My mind fills with ideas constantly, a visionary at times, hmm; well that lives actively too. But…..
it seems to be a constant “but” when it comes to physical activity.
My mantra and single goal for this year is I live. I made the decision and the commitment that I would no longer let my weight hold me back. I have stretch some comfort zones, broken past some fears, put myself out there for the blog world to see, and I feel I am living my life. I figured out many of my excuses, and I ask myself weekly What If questions.
You see, I have used my creativity and my intelligence to escape, mainly those physical feelings. I am reminded of that fight or flight feeling that comes with fear. I don’t LIKE that feeling. It triggers too many emotions and memories. It used to send me to the Oreo cookies and milk for a binge. Now, I have gotten past that part but it still makes me afraid to exercise and to push myself. But I have only recently figured that out.
Back in November, when it was rainy and cold, I could not walk outside. I borrowed my daughter’s Wii and bought a Fit Plus Game. That started my adventure in activity. Vicarious living. I could ski, run, high jump, play soccer, fly like a bird, float along the river in a bubble, Yoga, be a hula hoop star, ride a bike through the park, and even ride a segway. I started to learn that exercise could be fun.
I am not as active as Salina, and I more than admire her stamina and determination. But, the idea of living active is learning how to make exercise exciting, fun, and different. The Wii gave me that to start.
Just recently, I started to step a little more out of my comfort zone. I walked 2.4 miles the other day. I have run a block. I purchased a stationary bicycle and I will be adding that to my assorted activities. I have tried Cardioke, I use my cable to watch Exercise TV and next month I will be trying meditation.
It is little steps but it is still movement. So, whether you are daring and full of energy, you can try the roller derby or if you are just starting out and still have some reservations or hesitation, you can still start. The purpose of living active is to try new things to find what you like and that will become a part of your lifestyle..not just a chore.
Just out of curiosity, I looked up the words Living Active. (I often do that to see if what I understand as the meaning is the true meaning.
Living:
• The condition or action of maintaining life.
• A manner or style of life.
• A means of maintaining life; livelihood.
Active
• Being in physical motion
• Functioning or capable of function
So, using my imagination, I can accept Living Active. I maintain a new style of life because I am capable of functioning in some areas, I do function in others and I have started being physical in motion. Active doesn’t mean hard, fast, push to the limit. It just means being in physical motion. I can DO that!
